About the Group

This is the site for the Kansas City Cherokee Community's (KCCC) Cherokee Language Group.  Started after a discussion among community members and the KCCC board in late 2012, the Cherokee Language Group had its' first meeting on February 19th, 2013.

Our goal is to be a part of the Cherokee language revitalization movement by learning our mother tongue through fun, interactive group activities.  We will be using the Cherokee Nation immersion school curriculum as our guide along with online sources and periodic assistance from fluent speakers. Due to the availability of resources and our location, we will be learning from sources based on Oklahoma Cherokee dialects rather than North Carolina Cherokee dialects.

The purpose of this site is to facilitate that learning.  If you have any questions or concerns about this site please contact mauramgarcia@gmail.com.  For more information about the Kansas City Cherokee Community please visit http://kansascity.cherokee.org/  or contact kansascitycherokeecommunity@groups.facebook.com.

It has been said if we loose our language then we loose ourselves.  It is up to us to make sure this does not happen.
